New Stuff 2012 Part 2

I've gotten pretty interested in audio stuff so bough a couple of toys to play with:

1. Steel Series Siberia V2 Special Edition Navi: Used mainly when i was playing MMOs and needed to talk a lot to people. Compared to my more specialized toys (later on), this one is really lacking in quality. But for its price, its really a very good gaming headset. Extremely cool and nice fitting, OK microphone. Looks nice too.

 2. Denon Luxury Headphones AH310: Bought these after hours of testing at Jaben. They seriously sound fantastic and are very very comfortable to wear. Only issue i have with them is that it feels plasticity and the headband doesn't feel very durable.

3. Creative Titanium X-FI HD: Suddenly integrated motherboard sound cards just didn't do it for me. Packing the kind of investments i was making in audio, my primary PC had to have something decent otherwise all would be wasted. One main complaint is that i can't switch between headphones and speakers easily with this card. Other than that, its a very very good soundcard. Soundcards tend to last very long in terms of depreciation, so getting a good one is usually a good idea.

4. Blue Yeti Microphone: This microphone is huge and awesome. It is another SUPER BUY product if you are doing any form of recording. The sound it records is so sharp that it picks up even the slightest defect in your speech or singing. I got this primarily to record my commentaries and improve my singing etc.

5. A-Jays 3: This is actually my 2nd pair of Ajays. I liked the first pair so much i decided to get another and even wanted to buy a 3rd for the office. I really LOVE the cables which are tangle free, the ear pieces are not physically R or L so  you can just grab any and put it into your ear if your needs are not the particular AND they absolutely sound incredible (mid tones esp.). Had a lot of problems deciding which model to get but in the end decided I didn't need the 4's i-device controls so just stuck with 3 for its quality. The travel case it comes with is a nice touch.

New Stuff 2012 Part 1

Been almost a year since I updated my record of new stuff i bought. This will be long:

 1. Custom Awesome Gaming PC: Got this for my bday. SSD HDD, more ram than I'll ever use and a super powerful graphic card. Primary purpose was to play BF3 with it.

2. Asics Nimbus 12: From my running days (which i hope to rekindle really soon!), super cushioned and very fitted just for my feet. Spent an hour at running lab treadmills to ascertain my best shoe.

3. iPad 3: Got this for work and it has been serving me really well. It is really a super improvement over the iPad 1. So absolutely no regrets getting it. May want to change the case up a bit though. Has been sidelined due to my latest acquisition (the ultrabook).

4. Garmin Forerunner 610: Top end running touchscreen watch that can track heart rate, map out running route, speed etc. Part of my running hobby legacy.Too bad it has me as an owner who can't really max out its potential...yet.

5. Cote and Ciel Messenger Bag: I recently found (and fell in love) with this brand. It has fantastic material, excellent usability, unique colour and design and feels great. Best of all, its very unassuming.

6. Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A (I7): My latest buy after almost a year of procrastinating. Takes the place of my outdated netbook and also will be used to help me do more high level presentations for my work. Was a very close fight with the Mac Book Air. Still currently trying to see where it fits in my life.

7. Withings Wifi Scale: A VERY good buy. Calculates weight, body fat percentage and BMI through electrodes. Then wirelessly sends it to a website which links to a mobile app. You can view your stats anywhere. Can detect several different people just by these figures. When the weights are too similar, it has a user interface on the scale itself to select which profile to use. Seriously underrated product!

8. Lala the Rabbit Bookend by Zuny: A strange entry but I've never paid so much for a book end! Comes from a line of beautiful leather animals. Bought mainly for my daughter. Superior workmanship (handmade) and design. Its a work of art.

Cheap DIY Headphones Holder

Banana holder from Daiso $2 SGD
Not all Daisos have this, found mine in ION Orchard Daiso.

Airtight sealing tape (doors and drawers) $2 SGD from Daiso
Get the waterproof version as it is thicker (0.8cm) and would provide more protection for your headphones.

Total cost: $4

Simply cut off a small bit of it.

Then stick it along the banana holder rod as centered as you can. The adhesive is quite good so it doesn't shift position. Make sure you stick it right down onto the rod or it won't stick completely.

And there you go!

You can cut much smaller pieces depending on your headphone size.

Monopoly Deal or No Deal: Advanced Rules

I really like this game and thought I'd share some of the advanced rules. It is NOT stated anywhere in the manual and has to be researched online through various sources (which I share below).

  • Wildcard properties can't be used to settle debts, so you can keep them even if you are bankrupt! The only way to take them are through FD, SD and DB.
  • Using double the rent takes a turn although it is played together with the rent card. You can also use x2 double the rent cards to quadruple your rent. This takes up all 3 of your turns. Note that just ONE 'Just Say No' card is required to block this completely.
  • Houses and hotels are seized along with property if DB is used.
  • You need a just one house to build a hotel and the value does not stack with houses, only max +4m.
  • Houses/Hotels go to the bank before being used to pay another player. Thus the other player can only use it as bank.*
  • Houses/Hotels can be transferred to other sets within your own hand, but can never 'float' around.*
  • You can't use 'Just Say No' for other people.
  • If you force a deal and both people win, the person who forced the deal will win as it is his/her turn and you can only win on your turn.

*As of this date, there has been no official confirmation with regards to the these rules. Hasbro has officially stated that "They will look into this". However this is widely regarded as the 'right way'.

Please feel free to comment and add more insight or to ask me anything :)
